A whole new world to explore

The Fall 2014 M Missoni collection finds inspiration in a bon-ton style all about pure lines and timeless silhouettes. Pursuing a surprising path with respect to previous collections, the designs take a dual approach to classic elegance thanks to two distinct color themes: on the one hand a palette of soft quiet and essentially natural hues that alternate between pastel tones and subtle lurex glints; on the other, an intense chromatic impact where turquoise, teal green and plum purple intermingle lusciously with raspberry red and mustard yellow.

Now M Missoni references an opulent new world that invariably influences the clothes through various decorative elements, inserts, geometric patterns and floral motifs. With a perfect bon-ton style, sometimes the decoration is almost imperceptible, tone on tone, other times it uses color contrast to create high definition.

All the same the distinctive M Missoni touch always comes through. It’s there in the sense of motion characterizing both the natural/tech material mix of faux-tweed knits – for instance – and the sleek flare shape of coats, dresses, upside-down tulip skirts and amphora style pants.

As for the chic spirit underpinning M Missoni Fall 2014 collection, it emerges in the severity of lines and the simplicity of forms. Jumpers feature straight cuts, “punto stoffa” knit A-line dresses have zero frills, long double-breasted crewneck jackets take turns with items where faux-bib topstitching and shoulder snap-buttons recapture an idea of the classic bourgeois coat.

The real news of the season is in the mock-croc relief jacquards with multiple size scales, the fluffy shearling feel of particular raw-edge pieces, the lovely Art Deco-arabesque-floral appeal of lace-effect jacquards and other types of ornamentation.

Accessories too tell a multicolor/material mix story and feature this bon-ton style. Handbags in a wide selection of styles (city, chunky, clutch, tambourine, business complete with shoulder strap) associate different takes on leather to different specific colors. Ditto for the smartly slender shoes, from cuissard boots to elegant pumps, from ballerina flats to the ultra edgy sandals with fringe trim.

So let’s all gear up for this fab fall 2014 mood: a whole new experience is about to begin!
