There’s something about tartan

Up to date on a trend in full swing both in fashion mags and on the street? It’s the tartan look! Know the exact meaning of the word? Well, here’s the scoop:

The term tartan refers to a woolen cloth woven with stripes of different colors and widths crossing at right angles. Tartan fabrics were originally a trademark of the Scottish Highlanders, each clan having its own distinctive plaid. While the most classic design features a flame red hue, many other chromatic versions – with the dominant palette ranging from mute gray to vibrant fluo to sweet pastel shades – have emerged through the years.

Now the tartan look is back big – must-have mode – for the winter 2014 season. That’s why no true fashion girl can do without!

Making the most of soft comfy silhouettes, M Missoni has given tartan a grunge/rock twist. One masterpiece of this collection is clearly the patchwork dress very much about a black & red ripple plaid pattern. The put-together construction of the trapezoid skirt serves to create smart graphic effects thanks also to chunky volumes & asymmetric cuts.

Then for an ultra cozy feel with a high level of style factor, the maxi cardigan and maxi pullover definitely do the trick. In soft mohair wool, both items present red & black jacquard tartan designs complete with fine white stripe.

Fashion editors, bloggers and celebs are totally into the tartan craze, for sure.

They, along with nearly everyone else, have welcomed the return of this iconic textile – appreciating in particular the bold rock slant on longtime tradition. Ideal equally with leather and with denim, whatever the color or wash tartan has become the absolute must-have of the new winter season.
